Meet Basic State, a thriving band who formed in Cardiff, South Wales. Creating a name for themselves in the local music scene and far beyond by building a incredible reputation for mesmerising live sets, selling out iconic venues across the country.
Forming at the University of South Wales, Basic State released their debut single in 2023 after years of creating and mastering their sound. Inspired by the likes of Fontaines D.C. they are a band that inspire audiences with unique music and immersive live sets. A five-piece consisting of talented musicians at the top of their game, they are destined for even bigger venues in the future and set to release a debut EP soon.
A band based on friendship and a shared passion for music, they are a recipe for success and love crafting music without pressure or expectations. Each song released to date is memorable and anthemic.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM GIG VENUE
"The 100 Club would be cool, upstairs Clwb is something we haven't done yet either. We just want to play in different places, the goal is to play in as many cities as possible. Thekla would be sick as well or even The Las Vegas Sphere."
ARE THERE ANY BANDS THAT YOU WOULD LOVE TO SUPPORT
"Oasis for sure, Pale White would be good. Kasabian would be quite cool. We have lots of goals to play with many bands. Fontaines D.C. would be wild.
ARE THERE ANY BANDS OR ERAS THAT INFLUENCE AND INSPIRE YOUR SOUND
"The 1990's for sure and the bands we mentioned before have certainly inspired our sound. The Verve as well more recently because people have said that we sound like them. The 90s is the main ingredient and then other eras dating back are sprinkled in there, we are just trying to take influence from as many different years as we can."
ANY PLANS TO RELEASE AN EP SOON?
"We have finished recording one but we haven't shown many people yet, we are very happy with it and it is an expansion on all of our singles released so far. The positive response makes us happy."
TALK ME THROUGH YOUR SONGWRITING PROCESS AND WHAT EACH ONE IS ABOUT
"We like to write about what our mates are going through and it is much easier to write about things that have happened to you, I draw inspiration from experiences and create a story by bringing those moments together. A lot of them are personal as well so they are about my own life and what my friends go through."
